About the Role

 

You will play a key role in providing strategic legal advice and practical and innovative solutions to ANZ Plus, with a focus on reimagining financial services and consumer lending. You will ensure that legal issues are addressed, and needs are met for ANZ Plus to achieve their objectives. 
 
In this role you are working directly with the individual squads accountable for defining the service proposition and engineering the solutions.  You will be part of this work from the outset and will be providing advice and input throughout our exciting journey to market launch.  
 
You’ll be working in a highly engaged, high paced, engineering led culture, all focused on the mission of delivering substantially better banking services and solutions to our customers.

What could your day look like?

 

An integral member of the squads, you will be interacting closely with senior stream leads and product owners as well as other squad members

 

•    Provide proactive advice on compliance with laws in the development of new and innovative services, products, and channels, with a focus on helping improve customer financial wellbeing 

•    Provide general legal advice on day-to-day operations and matters with a focus on being proactive 

•    Help resolve complex and innovative legal, regulatory or customer problems as well as legal education on the same 

•    Help assess and implement regulatory change, strategic change, and growth initiatives 

•    Continuously and proactively evaluate and improve the way the team delivers legal support to improve efficiency 

•    Proactively help stakeholders understand the legal and regulatory landscape and its impact on their transactions, projects, and initiatives 

•    Oversee delivery of legal services to the supported business 

•    Focus on continuous professional improvement by implementing professional growth and development strategies; and fostering access to expertise via business relations.

What's in your toolkit?

 

We know not everyone will bring all of the skills and experience, and at ANZ we are focused on people bringing a growth mindset to their approach to work. Some of the skills we are looking for are below, but don’t worry if you don’t have all of these as learning on the job is the way we work.  But back to some of the skills – 

  

  • Possess a law degree and admission to practice in Victoria 
  • More than 6 years post-qualification experience as a lawyer (either as an in-house counsel and/or in private practice) with strong technical legal expertise in banking, retail financial services law or consumer credit law with privacy law preferred 
  • Proven ability to exercise excellent judgement in the identification and management of legal risk 
  • Have a keen interest in, and understanding of, the commercial customer experience and legal considerations that underpin digital financial services and lending 
  • Demonstrated experience in exercising excellent judgement, providing technically accurate, proactive, innovative and commercially astute legal advice, and proactively influencing outcomes 
  • Have a proven track record of collaboration, with a positive attitude to promote ANZ values and our aspirational culture 
  • Excellent communication skills, client focus and the ability to develop strong stakeholder relationships 
  • Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities 
  • Have strong ability to work at pace with care 
  • Energy and passion to play an important role in transforming the product and services delivered to our customers.
