About the Role

Our mission is to combine business & technology capabilities to enable analytics, reporting & data asset development by users across ANZ’s Australia Retail Data Portfolio
As a Data Engineer in the Data Portfolio, you are responsible for building world class data processing and software solutions in your squad and chapter to enable value from analytic models to drive rapid decision making. You’ll be a promoter and ambassador of the new culture and ways of working. You will bring domain knowledge or deep expertise on a specific topic.
A key element of this is driving the data engineering agenda within the Data Portfolio, ensuring delivery of best practice end-to-end data, whilst combining the discipline of software engineering that respects ANZ architecture standards. You will challenge inefficient engineering practises and influence change in your field to drive better business outcomes. To this end, in the role you will implement smart and relevant data engineering to drive E2E application delivery and support the uplift of data engineering capability in Data Portfolio and linking into the wider Enterprise Analytics roadmap.

What will your day look like?
- Working in an engineering focused squad
- Leveraging cloud native data technologies to create data engineering frameworks
- Build and support critical large-scale distributed data applications
- Follow software engineering best practices, and CI/CD principles, to build DataOps tools and continuously improve the development lifecycle of data applications
- Support delivered tooling and managed services for mission critical workloads
What will you bring?
We are hiring a Data Engineer with experience in modern data technologies, having very strong hands-on experience, and a demonstrated ability to handle a fast-moving day-to-day development workload. Specifically, this would cover the following:
- Hands on experience and a deep understanding of modern data processing tools and frameworks e.g. Apache Spark, Flink, Kafka, Airflow and working with object storage
- Familiarity and exposure to data related cloud native technologies e.g. Big Query, S3, Cloud SQL and Pub/Sub
- Demonstrated experience in developing high workload data applications on massively parallel process (MPP) architecture
- Strong and demonstrated experience in Python and test-driven development (TDD)
- 5+ years of active experience in software engineering practice and exposure to projects with large codebase
- Solid hands-on experience and confident understanding of CI/CD toolchains e.g. Codefresh/Argo CD, Docker/Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform, Artifactory
- Demonstrated ability to ensure the quality, reliability, and integrity of data assets through rigorous testing and validation processes.
