About the Role
- The Advisor, Government Relations and Policy is an integral position within the Government Relations and Policy (GRP) team.
- The GRP team manages ANZ’s engagement with federal and state Governments and oppositions, the policy agenda of those governments and the bank’s relationship with the Australian Banking Association (ABA).
- This role within the GRP team will focus on:
- Identifying and responding constructively to Australian Government policy including through reviewing draft legislation
- Engaging with internal stakeholders to promote awareness of relevant policy developments
- Assisting in the preparation for appearances before Parliamentary committees and other external bodies
- Helping to manage ANZ’s engagement with the ABA.

What will your day look like?
This role is accountable for:
- Engaging with relevant public policy in a way that promotes the bank’s purpose, culture and values
- Assisting to build ethical relationships with governments
- Keeping internal stakeholders aware of policy developments so that the bank is well run reputationally, legally and commercially
- Helping to manage the bank’s relationship with the ABA (and other industry groups) to promote the bank’s interests
- Helping to manage the non-financial risk of the GRP team’s activities, including with respect to the laws concerning political donations, competition and lobbying
What will you bring?
To grow and be successful in this role, you will ideally bring the following:
- 5+ years’ experience as a legal practitioner in a relevant practice area with a major law firm or in-house (mandatory)
- Exceptional analytical skills concerning legal, commercial and policy matters
- Strong track record of building enduring and respectful relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Highly collaborative approach to working with team members and colleagues
- Sound understanding of the Australian policy and political environment
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to simplify complex matters for diverse external and internal audiences
- Ability to role model ANZ’s behaviours and values
- Strong undergraduate degree in law
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in social sciences, commerce, economics, or communications (desirable)
